After something of a hiatus, the site now has correctly configured SSL certificates and so is working correctly with Google Chrome. Appologies to all who were inconvenienced by the security problems on the site. There will be some modifications to the site over the next few weeks in preparation for some new content.
I'm pleased to announce the addition of an "On This Day" feature, which you will see in the right-hand side of the site. If anyone has any good "On This Day" items, please feel free to add them in comments!
The plate-solve service has been improved and a recurring error fixed. Plate-slolving is now available again for all observation images.
We've added a new feature, which impacts on user profiles and privacy settings - the site will now email you when someone posts to your feed. This can be turned OFF in your profile tab.
All requests served by SocialAstronomer are now conducted using httpsS, including images. The only insecure images being put in to pages served by SocialAstronomer are ones from RSS Feed robot accounts. Thanks to StartSSL for the assistance in setting up our certification for free!
Sharing feed posts from RSS automated accounts now provides images from the post for social sharing. This means that when content created from RSS feeds is shared to Twitter or Facebook, the accompanying image appears in the shared content on external sites.
A number of small but irritating bugs have been fixed today - the process of adding a new observatory has been improved, and user input validation fixed, the notifications tab now informs users of how many new notifications they have in near-real time, and up/down voting now reflects on the content item in the feed - for example, a feed post relating to an observation now has it's up and down votes posted to the observation it's self. There are other areas currently undergoing testing and improcement, and I will update as work continues.
Plate solving is now working again. The failure was due to hard drive capacity issues with our provider.
The plate-solving service is currently unavailable - we are investigating but it seems to be a problem with the service provider.
